Wild Ones by Leigh Goodison

Wild Ones by Leigh Goodison is a wonderful coming of age story about a teen named Breeze who is bounced around in foster care after her mother's death and lands in a state run school for girls. At Stark School she finally makes friends and feels like she has found a home, but then she is uprooted again. A couple who run an Oregon ranch take her in but the ranch is out in the middle of nowhere and Breeze makes plans to somehow get back to Stark. Then disaster strikes and Breeze realizes she must stay and help.

This is not really a horse story but horses are included in the setting and plot lines. It is well written and keeps the reader guessing what obstacle Breeze will encounter next.
