The Ride to Jubilee by Ellen G Adler

The Ride to Jubilee by Ellen Gibson-Adler features the young life of an army brat, Nelle, who tries to cope with the family moves from Tokyo to Alaska to Texas and finally Louisiana. Her love of horses and nature provide an outlet while she adjusts to new schools, emotional pitfalls and dysfunctional parents. While in Texas during high school, she is guided by her grandfather and befriends a local farm boy. With her small circle of geeky friends and a kindly teacher, Nelle learns that she can make a positive difference in the community.

The author provides a different and interesting plot, a protagonist who the reader roots for and realistic dialog especially Nelle's internal thoughts. A great read for young and old!

On the Buckle by Candace Carrabus

Very few books make me laugh out loud, but On the Buckle by Candace Carrabus did just that. Although some parts were very unrealistic - the whole story takes place in about a week, and kittens were born and playing in that time - the author creates a believable equine setting with the main character, Vi, as a true horse lover.

She begins a job as barn manager and, unlike her previous ones, she must stay on at least a year in order to have access to her trust fund. She brings along her horse, dog and lots of baggage in the way of bad memories. Top it off with a really bad first day that includes kicks from horses and the owner in a kilt.

I wasn't sure I wanted to continue, but the plot intrigued me when a dead body is found in a strange place. Oh, and the scenes involving whipped cream!

I don't think the story needed the foul language or explicit sex scenes, which I skipped, but the author makes the reader want to know how Vi is going to handle all her bad choices.

The Horse Trailer Owner's Manual

The Horse Trailer Owner's Manual by Leigh Goodison Grieve is a great resource for beginner and advanced horse owners alike. From hitches to wiring to winterizing, and everything in between, this book will assist the trailer owner in choosing, maintaining and repairing their horses' means of transport. There's even a chapter on troubleshooting and a checklist for buying a used trailer.

I loved that there's a chapter on the tow vehicle. I met many horse owners that pull their heavy trailers with a too small of a truck!

If you are in the market to buy a horse trailer, buy this book first!
