Loving Spirit - a teen horse novel

Loving Spirit
by Linda Chapman is another horse story with a teen protagonist who is orphaned, lonely and placed with strangers, and who finds an emotional bond with a special horse. This time, the setting is England, since the author is a native.

Once you understand some of the British equine terminology - headcollar is a halter, boxes are stalls - the characters and plot keep the reader engaged. The horsey background (show stable, horse auction etc) is described in detail, yet a non-rider teen would still understand everything and enjoy the action and conflicts.

Ellie's first day at her uncle's horse farm has her rescuing a kitten from a drowning, and showing that she has some spunk! But her mystical talent with horses is a wonderful trait that isn't often shown in teen novels.

This is the first of a series, with Book Two being released next year.
